Amatus is here because our Founder, Amy Zapantis, found it so difficult to unearth exactly what ingredients were in the skincare products she was using. It wasn’t a question of not looking hard enough, Amy is a trained beautician, brands just did not feel the need to tell their customers. The information about ingredients and their purposes is just not easily accessible.
Considering we put skincare products on our face and around our eyes, and we trust our skin health to these brands, wouldn’t you want to know what they were made from?
Amy created Amatus with three founding principles:
- Every product would come with an ingredients list to explain exactly what is in it and what that ingredient does.
- There would be as few ingredients as needed to effectively care for your skin.
- Ingredients would be chosen on quality, not on price.
This is a stripped back approach to skincare. Amatus products only contain what is absolutely necessary and our ranges only include what you need for an effective skincare routine. We also strip back how we describe our ingredients, to avoid confusing scientific terms and making sure you know what the ingredient actually is!
Working closely with talented chemists and involving considerable research, it took Amy 18 months to research and formulate the products but the results are worth it! There are some ingredients used across our entire range simply because their properties are just so good for your skin.
Every product contains at least one of these core ingredients:
Hyaluronic acid:
This little magic ingredient actually increases collagen density in the deep layers of the skin to prevent wrinkles and make the skin look younger. It alleviates the signs of aging. With its antioxidant side, it creates a protective shield against factors that harm the skin. Its antibacterial properties help wounds heal faster and it can be used in the treatment of blemishes and acne on the skin.
Hyaluronic acid is an active ingredient in our Gentle and Complex moisturisers and in our Super Serum.
Niacinamide:
A form of vitamin B3, has anti-aging properties and boosts skin metabolism. An antioxidant which reduces inflammation, helps to ease redness from eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions. It keeps skin smooth and moisturised which helps minimise pore appearance.
Niacinamide is used in our Complex Moisturiser, our Gentle Cleanser and our Super Serum.
Glycerin:
A SUPER effective moisturising agent. It smooths the skin and maintains and nourishes the water balance. Improves skin appearance. Heals and protects the skin.
Glycerin is an active ingredient in our Gentle Cleanser and Moisturiser and in our Complex Cleanser.
Vitamin E:
Helps to reduce inflammation and make your skin look younger by reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of firmness on the skin. It helps to lighten dark spots and improves skin tone. It also helps with acne scarring due to its skin repair qualities.
Vitamin E is used in our Gentle and Complex Moisturisers and our Super Serum.
Citric Acid:
Is a protective antioxidant which helps to improve the appearance of photoaged skin. It helps to improve the skin elasticity and increase skin firmness. It exfoliates the upper layer of dead skin cells to help clean pores, even skin tone, and soften and smooth the skin.
Citric acid is an active ingredient in our Gentle and Complex Moisturisers and our Super Serum.
It’s no easy task to get the effective ingredients combined into a good-looking product which feels great on your skin, can easily be put in our bottles and jars, is stable across a wide temperature range and lasts once its opened! But that is what we’ve done. We’ve worked very hard to create effective skincare products and to make every step in using the Amatus range a pleasure.
